Which visa do I actually need?
It maps from what you do: investing in your own PT PMA points to the investor route; being employed by an Indonesian company points to a work permit plus the employer's own permits; working remotely for foreign clients points to the remote-worker route; wealth-based residence points to the golden visa or second home routes; age 55 and above opens the retirement routes; marriage to an Indonesian opens the spouse route. Matching the route to your real situation — and confirming you genuinely qualify before anything is filed — is the layer that needs checking. Codes and thresholds shift often, so they are re-verified every time.

What's the investor stay-permit threshold now?
Rp10 billion of shareholding in the sponsoring PT PMA — raised from the old Rp1 billion era, and that is the part many long-time investors have not absorbed: thousands who qualified at their last renewal no longer do. If your shareholding is below the line, or booked but never actually deposited, the renewal is the wrong moment to discover it.

Can I live in Bali and work remotely for my company back home?
That is exactly what the remote-worker route is for: a foreign employment contract, income of at least USD 60,000 a year, and a USD 2,000 bank statement — plus no Indonesian-source income. That last condition is the one that bites: serving Indonesian clients from your laptop is the classic status violation. If your work later turns local, there is a clean conversion path to the employer route.

What are the golden-visa options?
Three families. Founding a company: USD 2.5 million invested for five years' stay, USD 5 million for ten. Without a company: government bonds, listed shares or funds at USD 350,000 for five years or USD 700,000 for ten, or a USD 1 million residential apartment for ten years. And a route for directors or commissioners where the company invests at corporate scale. Two traps to guard: the funds must be placed within 90 days of entry, and the 'apartment' route means strata title — never let a golden visa ride on an unexamined off-plan developer promise.

I'm retired. What are my options?
Age 55 and above opens the retirement routes: the five-year one requires income of USD 3,000 a month plus a USD 50,000 deposit commitment; the one-year extendable one runs on the income alone; and for the wealthier, the second-home route with USD 130,000 placed at a state-owned bank, or a USD 1 million apartment. Which one wins depends on the shape of your wealth. A caution: much of the internet still describes the old USD 1,500 pension package — those pages are legacy.

What happens if I overstay?
Under 60 days: fines and a discretionary ladder. Over 60 days: deportation — the rule states it expressly — typically with consequences for later entry. And overstay is only one branch of immigration enforcement: working outside your visa's purpose lands in the same place.

My application was refused or botched. Can it be fixed?
Often, yes — but the move depends on why. Refusals, mismatched documents, wrong codes and status gaps each have different repairs, and some have short fuses. One transition tool worth knowing: the bridging visa lets you change status onshore — 60 days, NOT extendable, and you must apply at least three days before your current permit dies. The rule of thumb: if the target status cannot be ready inside 60 days, do not start the bridge.
